Review – B. Loud Mascara

Finding a good, accessible vegan mascara is a pain in the arse. There is a really limited choice here in the UK and since mascara is one of those things everyone seems to be really picky about, the chances of finding one you love are slim. That is, they were slim before B. came out with with their all-vegan makeup and skin-care range including 3 different mascara types. I think that’s probably expanded the vegan high-street choice by about 100%. When I found myself in need of a new tube just before christmas, I decided to give the brand’s volumising offer, B. Loud, a go. I usually opt for lengthening mascara, but I was curious about what a volumising product might do for my lashes, as some of my favourite bloggers seem to swear by them! Firstly – the packaging. What can I say. It’s a mascara tube. It’s a bit thicker than what I’m used to, probably to accommodate the slightly larger brush, but apart from that it’s just regular mascara-shaped. I like the sleek black design with a grey pattern on the lid though, it looks très chic.

When I first applied this, I was a bit disappointed. I found the brush head far too large and felt like it didn’t do much at all. By day two, however, I had obviously gotten used to the slightly larger size and was able to apply it like a pro, no smudges, and one coat achieved more volume than I’ve ever had on my lashes, along with a decent boost in length as well! I’ve been using it for a month now and really couldn’t tell you what my initial problem was.

I’m a little bit unsure about removing the product. The packaging states that washing your lashes with warm water will cause the mascara to expand and simply glide off, and this is certainly true. However, I’ve found that it just sticks to the skin under my eyes and won’t budge unless attacked viciously with make-up remover, which doesn’t feel too nice on the sensitive skin in that area.

I’d definitely buy this again, although I’m also super curious about B.‘s other mascaras, so I’m not sure whether to replace this in a few months or try one of their other products. The brand has certainly changed the game of vegan high-street cosmetics, that’s for sure!

B. Loud is available from Superdrug for £9.99, currently on offer for £6.66.

As far as I’m aware, they don’t test. If you have information saying something else, please share the links, because I would love to investigate that further! Thanks!
